HARRISONBURG, Va., March 6, 2013 – James Madison field hockey sophomore forward Bethany Ashworth (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was named a 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction, Wednesday.
The student-athletes recognized as Scholars of Distinction by the NFHCA have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year. Ashworth was one of 71 field hockey student-athletes recognized on Wednesday and one of nine recognized from the Colonial Athletic Association.
Ashworth appeared in 17 games for the Dukes in 2012, starting 14. She was tied for fourth on the team with two goals and tied for seventh with five points. She recorded 18 shots with 11 of them reaching net. In her career, Ashworth as scored four goals and has nine points in 34 games played.
The second-year Duke is now a two time NFHCA National Academic Squad member while also earning JMU’s Dean’s List (Fall 2011) and President’s List (Spring 2012) as a freshman. She received the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award and was named a JMU Athletic Director Scholar Athlete.
