CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Feb. 15, 2013 – Freshman Cameron Martin (Holly Springs, N.C./Holly Springs) won the 200-yard butterfly to highlight the day’s action for the James Madison swimming and diving team on day one of the UVA Cavalier Invitational.
Martin turned in the eighth-fastest time in school history in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall at 2:04.73 to win the event. She swam a 2:07.33 in the prelims before shaving nearly three seconds off her time in the finals.
Fellow freshman Stephanie Clarke (South Riding, Va./Freedom) also placed third on the day in the 200 backstroke. She turned in the third-fastest time in school history with a 2:02.35, while junior Addy Morrison (Williamsburg, Va./Bruton) also had a third-place finish. She came in third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.47.
Other top performers for Madison on Friday included freshman Amanda Presgraves (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) in the 100 breaststroke, senior Andrea Criscuolo (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) in the 100 freestyle and freshman Lindsay Bosek (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) in the 500 freestyle.
Presgraves came in fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.78), Criscuolo claimed fourth in the 100 freestyle and Bosek finished eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:25.48). In the only relay of the day, the top two Madison teams finshed second and third in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Cavalier Invitational concludes on Saturday at the Aquatic Fitness Center in Charlottesville, Va.
