RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 11, 2014 – James Madison sophomore pitcher/first baseman Jailyn Ford (Hot Springs, Va./Bath County) is the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for her performance at last week’s Red and Black Showcase in Athens, Ga. This is the fourth time in her career that Ford has collected the weekly pitching honor.
Ford limited her opponents to a .174 batting average against and 1.03 ERA in 20 1/3 innings pitched. The left-hander struck out 23 and walked five while limiting foes to four runs, three earned, on 12 hits. Two of her three appearances were complete games, including her 10th career shutout.
In JMU’s 1-0 win over Winthrop, Ford held the Eagles to three hits and no walks in seven innings of work. She also had 10 strikeouts and five hits allowed in the season-opener against North Texas, pitching into extra innings. Her final start was a complete-game effort against No. 23/21 Georgia. She held the Bulldogs to one earned run and four hits.

The Dukes are back in action this weekend as they travel to Orlando, Fla., to play in the UCF Holiday Inn Classic. JMU plays Florida A&M, Middle Tennessee State, Illinois-Chicago and Central Florida in the three-day, five game tournament.
