Cross Country Places Second at CAA Championships

TOWSON, Md., Nov. 2, 2013 – The James Madison cross country team posted a second-place finish at the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association championship meet.

The Dukes finished the 6-kilometer race in an average time of 23:03.18 and tallied 81 team points, just ahead of Delaware’s third place finish with 86 team points.  William & Mary repeated as team champion (15 pts.) and had the top five finishers in the race.  Northeastern placed fourth (106 pts.) and College of Charleston (150 pts.) rounded out the top five teams.

Freshman Meghan Malloy (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) had the top finish of the day for the Dukes, placing 11th with a time of 22:44.23.  Fellow freshman Tessa Mundell (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was just behind her in 12th place and a time of 22:50.32.  With their top-12 finishes, both freshmen earned All-CAA honors.

Sophomore Jenna Flickinger (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) placed with a time of 22:57.89.  Freshman Lillie Brown (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) earned an 18th-place finish (23:02.84), and junior Rachel Hagen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) tallied the final scored run of the day in 31st place (23:40.62).

With times of 23:50.94 and 24:05.25, juniors Tiel Westbrook (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) and Kristen Landry (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) placed 35th and 40th, respectively. 

Sophomores Kathleen Stewart (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) and Laura Dobbs (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) earned 43rd (24:17.55) and 61st place (25:38.10) finishes while senior Erin Lopresti (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) tallied a 62nd-place finish with a time of 25:38.10.  Freshman Maria Snyder (Woodbury, Pa./Northern Bedford County) crossed the line in 67th place with a time of 25:59.50.

JMU next competes on Friday, Nov. 15, at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet in Charlottesville, Va.
