RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 3, 2013 – Behind a five-goal weekend to start the James Madison field hockey season, redshirt-sophomore forward Taylor West (Princess Anne, Md./Pocomoke) earned the year’s first Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
West posted a hat trick in Friday’s season-opener, representing three JMU goals in the 5-1 victory over Kent State at home, and two goals in Sunday’s 8-1 win against Ball State. Two of her goals came off of penalty strokes and one came following a penalty corner.
This is the third CAA weekly honor of West’s career. Her first came in 2011 Rookie of the Week for Sept. 27, and her second came in 2012 when she was named Player of the Week for Sept. 18.
The Dukes hit the road this weekend as they visit American on Friday, Sept. 6, for a 3 p.m. match-up against the Eagles. They will return to American on Sunday, Sept. 8, for a neutral-site game against Columbia at 1 p.m.
