HARRISONBURG, Va. - Several James Madison cross country runners took part in the 2012 Mason Invitational at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va., Saturday morning.

Senior Jacki Ferrance (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) was the first JMU harrier to finish the 5,870-meter run, crossing the finish line in 37th place.  She completed the course in 24 minutes and 42.4 seconds, averaging a 6:46.6 mile.  Junior Carrie Payne (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) saw race competition for the first time this season, posting a 25:36.0 and finishing in the 53rd position.

Rounding out the day for the Dukes were freshmen Emily Cole (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) and Laura Dobbs (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run).  Cole came in 42nd place with a 24:58.4 while Dobbs finished in 60th place in 25:55.8.

With only a partial team competing, meet rules stipulated that the Dukes would not be scored as a team.

A second wave of JMU runners will compete this afternoon at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Dukes will take next weekend off before sending runners to both the William & Mary Open in Williamsburg, Va., and the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Oct. 13.
