HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison cross country team was ranked seventh in the Southeast Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in their 2012 preseason poll, it was announced Monday morning.
William and Mary joins JMU in the regional rankings at eighth place as the only other Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) school chosen in the poll.
JMU cross country comes off a season in which it captured its second consecutive CAA championship. The squad returns four 2011 All-CAA runners, including the CAA cross country Athlete of the Year, senior Katie Harman (Clarksville, Md.). Harman also won the individual championship titles at the 2011 CAA Cross Country Championship and 2011 ECAC Championship.
Head Coach David Rinker returns for his 14th season at the helm as the reigning CAA Coach of the Year.
The Dukes begin their season Saturday, Sept. 1 with the VMI Invitational. The race is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Va.
