Richmond, Va. (December 8, 2011) - James Madison cross country junior runner Katie Harman (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) was named Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Athlete of the Year as voted on by the league's head coaches Thursday.

Harman, who earned All-Region and All-Conference honors, was recognized as the Most Outstanding Performer at the CAA Women's Cross Country Championship after claiming the individual title with a time of 21:18 on the 6K course. She won the race by 25 seconds and broke the previous course record by 65 seconds as the Dukes took home the team championship. Harman earned USTFCCCA All-Southeast Region honors after finishing 17th at the NCAA Southeast Regional with a time of 20:51. She also was the individual winner at the ECAC Championship Division Race with a time of 17:29 in the 5K event. Harman is the fourth different JMU runner to receive Athlete of the Year honors over the past seven seasons.

JMU Head Coach Dave Rinker was also selected as the CAA women's cross country Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and the seventh time in his career after guiding JMU to back-to-back conference titles. The Dukes also placed eighth at the NCAA Southeast Regional and finished fourth at the ECAC Championship.
