SOUTH BEND, Ind., Sept. 30, 2011 - Junior(Clarkesville, Md./River Hill) placed eighth overall to lead James Madison to a tie for 14th place in the women's blue race at the 2011 Notre Dame Invitational.
Battling the elements with a wet course, temperatures in the 50s and winds gusting to 40 miles per hour, JMU finished with 390 points to tie Rice for 14th place in the 28-team field. Seventh-ranked Florida State placed all five runners in the top 18 to finish with 54 points. No. 18 Arkansas (116) was second, followed by No. 2 New Mexico (164), No. 28 Penn State (188) and host Notre Dame (210) rounded out the top five.
Harman covered the 5K blue race terrain in 17 minutes, 15 seconds to place eighth in a strong group of 225 runners. Silje Fjortoft of Southern Methodist won the race in 16:54, 19 seconds ahead of Harman and eight seconds ahead of the pack.
Junior(Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) followed Harman as the next-best JMU runner, placing 41st in a time of 17:45. Junior Stacey Nobles (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) also earned a top-100 place at 59th in 17:53.
Also for the Dukes, senior Jessica Zozos (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) placed 125th among the scoring runners with a time of 18:23 while freshman(Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) was 176th in 18:54. Additionally, freshman (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame H.S.) was 187th in 19:04 and sophomore (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) was 202nd in 19:19.
The remainder of JMU's squad will compete in the George Mason Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 1) in Leesburg, Va. at 10 a.m. After that, the Dukes will participate in the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Oct. 14.
