JMU’s Savarese Finishes 10th at Cavalier Open

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Nov. 5, 2010 - The James Madison cross country team ran in its final race prior to the NCAA Southeast Regional meet on Friday at the University of Virginia's Cavalier Open at Panorama Farms.

Sophomore Michelle Savarese (Middletown, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) was the Dukes' top finisher with a 10th-place showing out of 37 runners after covering the five-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 7.03 seconds.

Unattached runner Kathleen Stevens won the women's race in 18:26.28.

Senior Lynne Colombo (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM) followed Savarese in 11th place with a time of 20:11.12. Freshman Julie Strange (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) took 14th in 20:14.99, and sophomore Mikaela Davis was 16th after clocking a time of 20:16.64.

Junior Brittany Wilhelm (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) posted a time of 21:16.88, good for 26th place, and sophomore Megan Barnes (Sterling, Va./Park View) rounded out the Dukes in 30th place with a time of 22:05.27.

There was no team scoring at the event.

JMU returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 13 for the NCAA Southeast Regionals in Louisville, Ky. The meet is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
