Since 2000, James Madison University Department of Athletics has experienced great success, both on the playing field and in the classroom along with various improvements throughout the department and University. Over that time period, the Dukes have had numerous highlights including:

  • 2004 NCAA I-AA Football National Championship
  • 21 Team NCAA Championship Appearances plus numerous individual appearances
  • 5 National Players of the Year (in respective sports at their position)
  • 31 Combined Regular Season and Tournament Conference Championships, including a school-record five CAA Conference Championships in both 2000-01 and 2010-11
  • 2 CAA 25th Anniversary Silver Stars (top 25 student-athletes in all sports in CAA history)

A significant improvement of facilities for numerous areas of athletics, including construction:

  • Fan support increased over the years, including ranking in the top 15 nationally in both attendance average and attendance based on capacity in football attendance for the last seven years.

  • Private support increases in unrestricted giving to the Duke Club by almost 400 percent over the last 10 years.

  • Increase in ticket sales, as football season ticket revenue has increased more than 750 percent from 2001 to 2011 so far and overall ticket revenue is up almost 500 percent in the same time period before the 2011 season gets underway.

  • In 2010, entered in a comprehensive marketing partnership with Front Row Marketing Services to increase the support for the various sports programs and student-athletes at JMU.
