Godwin Hall was authorized by the Virginia General Assembly when Mills E. Godwin Jr. was governor of Virginia. It was completed in 1972 and named for the governor and his wife, Katherine, a JMU graduate. Godwin Hall contains the Sinclair Gymnasium, the Savage Natatorium, the kinesiology department office, dance offices, intercollegiate athletics offices and classrooms. Sinclair Gymnasium, containing 5,000 seats, was named after Caroline Sinclair, former department head in physical and health education. Savage Natatorium, an Olympic-sized pool with seats for 800 spectators, was named for Dorothy L. Savage, a former physical education teacher.

¨       Interstate 81

¨       Take Exit 245, Port Republic Road.

¨       Turn west onto Port Republic Road (From I-81 South, turn right.  From I-81 North, turn left.)

¨       Take the first right (at the stoplight) at the campus entrance onto Bluestone Drive.

¨       Follow Bluestone Drive approximately one-half mile.

¨       Turn left at the second stoplight into the G parking lot.

¨       You will pass the bookstore on the left, and Godwin Hall sets back behind the bookstore and has two adjacent parking areas. 

¨       Locker rooms are located on Godwin’s ground floor. 

¨       Athletic department offices are on the west end of the building.

NOTE:  Office numbers beginning with 1 are on the first floor, 2 are on the second (main) floor and 3 are on the third floor.
