Dr. Mark Miller joined the JMU sports medicine staff as its orthopaedic surgeon in August of 2003. He is a nationally recognized expert in orthopedic sports medicine. He also serves as a professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and is the co-director of its sports medicine division.
Dr. Miller is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and completed his doctorate at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Md. in 1987. He then went on to complete his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. Dr. Miller is fellowship trained in sports medicine and shoulder surgery through the University of Pittsburgh. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and has membership in the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Miller has over 120 publications to his credit, including 25 textbooks that he has written or edited. He has been a featured speaker at both the national and international level regarding orthopaedics or sport medicine related topics. His clinical interests involve sports medicine, shoulder surgery, knee ligament reconstruction, articular cartilage and meniscal reconstruction, revision knee and shoulder surgery, and total knee replacements.
Dr. Miller has extensive experience serving as a Team Orthopaedic Physician. His previous experience as a Team Orthopedist includes stints at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Stars, and the University of Virginia.
