HARRISONBURG, Dec. 23, 2013 – After averaging 21 points per game with the two highest-scoring games of his career, James Madison sophomore guard Ron Curry (Pennsauken, N.J./Paul VI) was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for games of Dec. 16-22.
Curry topped 20 points for the first time with a career high of 23 in Wednesday’s loss at UNCG. He followed that with 19 points in Saturday’s win over Hampton in the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic. He shot 68 percent (13-for-19) from the floor and went 6-for-10 (60 percent) from the arc along with 10-for-13 (.769) from the free throw line. He also added five rebounds and three assists.
Curry’s previous career high was 19 points set in the second game of the season at Northern Illinois. The two games raised his season average to 12.5 points per game, second on the squad. He is also averaging 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
It is the second weekly award from the CAA this season for JMU as Jackson Kent was also honored as CAA Rookie of the Week on Dec. 9.
JMU is currently on an extended break for the holidays and will resume on Dec. 30 at home against Ball State at 8 p.m. It will be the second home game of the season for the Dukes in their 14th game overall.
