RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 17, 2013 – James Madison juniors Trey Smith (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) and Jon Weiss (Florence, S.C./Sumter (Newberry)) earned CAA Men’s Golfers of the Week award after tying for 13th at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate this past week.
The two juniors led the JMU Dukes to a sixth-place team finish on the par 70, 6,718-yard Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C. Smith opened the tournament shooting 1-over 71 before carding back-to-back 1-under 69’s to finish 1-under at 209. Smith has recorded a round in the 60’s five times this fall, increasing his career mark to 12 overall. Weiss, a transfer from Newberry College, scored 70-71-68—209 (-1), tying a season-low in the third round (68).
The Dukes will wrap up their fall slate on Sun.-Tue., Oct. 20-22 at the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Collegiate at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Kitty Hawk, N.C.
