JMU Alumni Association Joins Athletic Department as Presenting Partner for MadiZONE

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison University Athletic Department is pleased to announce that, beginning in Fall 2013, the JMU Alumni Association will be the presenting partner of MadiZONE, the on-line streaming effort of JMU Athletics. This will be a three-year partnership between the two organizations that will include various promotion of the Alumni Association in all MadiZONE broadcasts.

“We believe this is a perfect fit for the JMU Alumni Association,” Ashley Privott, Executive Director of the JMU Alumni Association said. This allows us to partner with Athletics to provide a great service to our alumni, as well as all Dukes fans, worldwide.”

“The JMU Alumni Association is proud to partner with JMU Athletics to bring MadiZONE and the Dukes to our alumni worldwide, “ Jamie Miller, President of JMU Alumni Association Board commented. “This partnership will ensure that JMU Alumni will be cheering on the Dukes and experiencing the excitement of game day even if they can't be in Harrisonburg.”

The alumni community is a large viewer base for Madizone and represents a large block of JMU fans, ticket holders, Duke Club members, university donors and JMU volunteers, and this is yet another way to engage the JMU Nation worldwide. This partnership also allows the video streaming to be free to all JMU alumni, as well as fans, donors, students and parents.

"This is a great partnership for everyone,” Director of Athletics Jeff Bourne said. “MadiZONE is the preeminent video and audio streaming effort in the Colonial Athletic Association and among the best in the region. The growth of viewership over the last year has shown the impact of the continual improvement of the broadcast and the shift to high definition broadcasts. Adding the Alumni Association as the presenting partner will enhance the association’s visibility while adding to the outreach of JMU Athletics to all alumni.”

Last year, MadiZONE had more than 60 adaptive HD broadcasts, including all home football and men’s and women’s basketball games, and more than 100 audio broadcasts. Within those broadcasts, there were more than 30,000 live video connections, 8,000 archived video connections and 15,000 audio broadcast connections in the first year of free coverage. This represents more than 1000 percent increase in viewership in the adaptive HD broadcasts over the previous year, with a global footprint of more than 40 countries. The JMU Alumni Association is made up of more than 113,000 alumni in the worldwide network, with more than 40 chapters nationwide combining to host over 300 programs annually including service events, fundraisers, watch parties and reunions. Those chapters also facilitate opportunities for career networking assistance, online platforms for people to connect via social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter platforms connect thousands of alumni daily) and opportunities for graduates of JMU to be informed, involved and invested in helping shape JMU’s future.
