Women's Golf In Fourth After Two Rounds of John Kirk/Panther Intercolleigate

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – The James Madison University women’s golf team is currently in fourth after two rounds of the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate, March 25. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Georgia State University, is being played at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga., just outside of Atlanta.

Battling cold and wind blowing consistently through the day, the scoring average for the field through two rounds was 82.69, as just one hole played under par. JMU shot a 28-over 316 in the first round and then a 27-over 315 in the second 18 to sit at 55-over 631. Conference foe Old Dominion is leading at 45-over 621 after a tournament low 15-over 303 in the second round. Kent State is in second at 53-over 629, with host Georgia State in third at 54-over 630. Samford rounds out the top five teams at 70-over 646.

JMU is led by sophomore Maria Andrea Legaspi, who is currently second at 8-over 152 after rounds of 5-over 77 and 3-over 75. Freshman Karishma Thiagaraj is next at 15-over 159 in a tie for 13th, while sophomore Shabril Brewer is tied for 22nd at 17-over 161. Junior Ginger Mak and sophomore Nikola Wessels are tied for 30th in the 76-player field at 19-over 163. Playing as an individual, freshman Rachel Walker is 71st at 35-over 179. Old Dominion’s Kimberly Bradbury holds a 6-shot lead entering the final round over Legaspi, as Bradbury posted back-to-back 1-over 73s for a 36-hole total of 2-over 146.

The final round will be shotgun start at 9 a.m., with the Dukes playing with Samford and Southern Mississippi.
