RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 6, 2012 – James Madison swimming and diving senior Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Diver of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. This is the third time this season and the eighth time in her career that Helfrich has claimed the weekly diving honor.
Helfrich helped lead JMU to a sweep over a trio of conference foes at last weekend’s CAA Pod Meet in Newark, Del. She won both diving events, scoring a 287.95 on the one-meter board and a 322.50 on the three-meter board. The senior from Fort Belvoir, Va., has finished first in all six diving events she participated in this season.
The Madison diving team claimed five of the top six spots in the two diving events at the Pod Meet to sweep past UNCW, Delaware and William & Mary. Sophomore Alex Savage (Carrolton, Texas/Lewisville Hebron) took second on both boards while freshman Carly Alexander (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) claimed fourth in the one-meter event.
Towson’s Kaitlin Burke is the CAA’s Swimmer of the Week.
Helfrich and her fellow divers return to action Nov. 15-17 when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Nike Cup. They’ll join with the remainder of the team Nov. 16-18 in Pittsburgh, Pa., for the Pittsburgh Invitational.
