Men's Golf Moves Up To 10th After Two Rounds of Old Dominion/OBX Collegiate

POWELLS POINT, N.C. - The James Madison men's golf team improved by 13 shots in the second round and moved up three spots to 10th among the 18 teams through two rounds of the Old Dominion/OBX Collegiate, Oct. 22. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at Kilmarlic Golf Club (Par 72 - 6,560 yards) in Powells Point, N.C.

All five players shot second-round scores in the 70's, as compared to two in the opening round, for a 10-over 298, giving the Dukes a 36-hole total of 33-over 609. Georgia Southern continued to lead the field, holding on to its five-shot lead at 1-over 577, with Radford in second at 6-over 582.  Host Old Dominion is in third at 7-over 583, with Richmond and VCU tied for fourth at 10-over 586. Other Colonial Athletic Association foes in the field include George Mason (seventh), Delaware (eighth), Drexel (13th) and Hofstra (16th).

Freshman Connor Walters (Salem, Va./North Cross) improved 10 spots with his even-par 72 and is tied for 15th at 3-over 147 in the field of 94 participants.  Junior Ben Firebaugh (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd (Newberry)) also chopped 10 shots off his first round with a 1-under 71 today and is tied for 40th at 8-over 152 with teammate senior Ryan Vince (Charlotte, N.C./Providence).  

Junior Tucker Koch (Malvern, Pa. /Malvern Prep.) is next in a tie for 66th at 14-over 158 after a 6-over 78.  Sophomore Trey Smith (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) is tied for 77th with a 7-over 79 in the second round and a two-round total of 17-over 161.

Opening-round leader Scott Wolfes of Georgia Southern is tied for the lead at 7-under 137 with Radford's Weston Eklund.  VCU's Jake McNulty is in third at 5-under 139, while Stuart Kaufman of Elon and Old Dominion's Jamison Randall are tied for fourth two shots back at 3-under 141.

The Dukes will open the final round off No. 10, starting at 9:30 a.m., playing with St. Bonaventure and Longwood.
