RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 17, 2012 – James Madison swimming and diving senior diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Diver of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. This is the sixth time in her career that Helfrich has claimed the weekly diving honor.
Helfrich helped lead JMU to a double-dual meet sweep with her performance against Rider and UMBC in Baltimore last weekend. She finished first in both diving events to lead a dominating performance by the Madison diving team that claimed six of the top seven spots combined in the two diving events.
Helfrich scored a 269.00 to finish first on the one-meter board and added a 264.45 on the three-meter board. She finished more than 30 points ahead of her nearest competitor, JMU sophomore diver Alex Savage (Carrolton, Texas/Lewisville Hebron), in the three-meter event and just under 18 points ahead of freshman diver Carly Alexander (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) in the one-meter event.
UNCW’s Carly Tanner claimed CAA Swimmer of the Week honors.
The Dukes return to the pool next Saturday, Oct. 27, as they travel to Pennsylvania for a double-dual meet with Villanova and West Virginia.
