HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 10, 2012 -- Former James Madison soccer player Nick Zimmerman (2005-08) has been named one of the North American Soccer League's "Best XI."

Zimmerman was one of three players who were unanimous selections to the team, which was chosen by the league's eight head coaches.

The 2009 JMU graduate led the Carolina RailHawks in scoring and was second in the NASL in goals.  He finished regular-season NASL play with 15 goals.

Zimmerman is in his second year with the RailHawks, who have advanced to the NASL semifinals.  Carolina lost the first leg of a home-and-home series against the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-1 on Oct. 6, and the second game of the NASL semifinals is scheduled for Oct. 13 at Tampa Bay.

The NASL semifinal and final rounds are a two-game series, with each team playing at home once and the team with the greater number of aggregate goals in both games winning each series.

Zimmerman was a four-year midfield starter at JMU.  He earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors as a senior in 2008 and was a two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection (2007, 2008).  He previously played for the New York Red Bulls (2009) and Philadelphia Union (2010) of Major League Soccer.
