HARRISONBURG, Va., August 13, 2012 - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named the James Madison Track & Field squad a 2012 Division I All-Academic team.
All-Academic status is awarded to those institutions' squads that have earned a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or better during both the indoor and outdoor 2012 track & field seasons. The JMU team had a cumulative GPA of 3.09 for the spring 2012 seasons.
Six Colonial Athletic Association schools were awarded USTFCCCA All-Academic status during the 2012 track & field seasons. JMU was joined on the list by UNCW, Delaware, Towson, George Mason and William and Mary.
Earlier this month, two members of the team were recognized for their individual performances in the classroom. Rising seniors Annie Reiner and Katie Harman were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a national team that honors those student-athletes with at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and who participated in a round of the NCAA Division I Championships.
The Dukes earned their first-ever CAA title in May 2012 after a commanding performance at the Virginia 529 Colonial Athletic Association Track and Field Championships. They also had three runners qualify to run at the NCAA East Regionals.
