From US Lacrosse Reports

BALTIMORE, Md., July 29, 2012 -- Former James Madison player Kelly Berger ('07) is on the 36-player roster for the 2012-14 U.S. National Senior Team.

The team was selected following a three-day tryout featuring more than 80 of the top players in the country.  This group will serve as the training team pool for the team that will defend Team USA's 2009 gold medal at the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario.

Berger, a four-year starter for the Dukes and two-time All-America selection, ranks second on JMU's career goals (184) and points (262) lists and fourth on the Dukes' career assist list (78).  She was a member of U.S. Elite Team that competed in the 2008 Prague Cup.

In the tryouts players were evaluated by the U.S. women's national team coaching staff, led by Head Coach Ricky Fried, and the U.S. women's national team selection committee, chaired by Anne Phillips.

The team will come together for several training events before the final 18-player FIL World Cup roster is announced in February 2013, including Stars & Stripes weekend (Calif.) in October 2012 and Champion Challenge (Fla.) in January 2013. The team will also conduct numerous national team player clinics throughout the year at various sites around the country.

The team's first training weekend will be September 7-9.

"We're really pleased with the team that we selected at the end of the weekend to go try to capture the next world cup," said Fried. "We got faster today, on a pretty fast team. We're really happy with the way the selection process worked. We're excited to work with these players - to see how the new players mesh with the veterans and how the veterans take the newcomers under their wing and show team the Team USA way."

"Watching these women play is truly inspiring," said Nathaniel Badder, US Lacrosse director of national teams. "They are the best of the best, and you would be hard-pressed to find games with more skilled play and spirited competition. More impressive still is how hard they play, despite the heat and the psychological pressure of tryouts. It's remarkable. The group we've selected is really a fantastic bunch."
