James Madison women’s volleyball will play its final two home matches of the season this Friday and Saturday. The Dukes take on Georgia State at 7 p.m. on Friday and face off against UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Friday’s match will include performances by the JMU Pep Band.
The Dukes enter the weekend following a successful pair of matches last weekend, in which the team beat both Delaware and Towson. The Dukes defeated Delaware 3-2 on Friday night at home. Danielle Erb led the team in scoring with 16 kills and eight digs. Junior Lindsay Callahan had a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs. Junior Holly Wall and Redshirt freshman Natalie Abel tied for team-high digs with 23; Wall also had nine kills on the night. Megan Wiechmann had a double-double with 38 assists and 13 digs.
JMU went on to defeat Towson on Saturday 3-1. Lindsay Callahan led the Dukes in scoring this time, with another double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Danielle Erb also scored a double-double for the Dukes with 12 kills and 11 digs. Jessica Zeroual was another high scorer for JMU with 12 kills of her own. Freshman setter Megan Wiechmann had 44 assists, three kills, and five digs.
Opponents
Georgia State lost its sole match last weekend to UNC Wilmington 3-1. Ashley Jones had a double-double with team-high 13 kills and 10 digs. Audrey Cantrell had the team-high 22 digs. Jocelyn Waldern and Jamie Freeman both had double-digit digs for the Panthers with 15 and 10 respectively. Setter Chelsea Perry had 23 assists.
UNC Wilmington defeated Georgia State last weekend 3-1. Three players had double-doubles in the match, Keri Hogan with 11 kills and 13 digs, Lindsey Strucko with team-high 18 kills and 12 digs, and setter Kelsey Bendig with 28 assists and 13 digs. Ashlyn Morris had the team-high 20 digs and Emily Mohrman contributed nine kills and five digs. The team also defeated North Carolina Central 3-0.
Series History
JMU leads the series against the Panthers 5-3. The Dukes swept both meetings a year ago, winning 3-1 in Atlanta and 3-0 at home. The last GSU win came in 2007 in a 3-2 match that set an NCAA record for most combined points in a five-set match with 150 total points (34-36, 30-19, 35-37, 30-21, 21-23).
JMU leads the series with UNC Wilmington 35-11. The Dukes have won 11 in a row and 20 of 21 against the Seahawks. Last year, JMU won 3-2 in Wilmington and 3-0 in Harrisonburg.
