Each month the ARMY ROTC select a JMU student-athlete to recognize as its Athlete of the Month. This month's honoree is field hockey's Meghan Bain.

Bain received the ECAC Award of Valor which honors athletes whose strength of character, perseverance, courage, and relentless determination inspires others. Bain was hit by a car in the spring of 2008 while crossing the road. She was in a coma for three days due to a traumatic brain injury, lung collapse, and many bone fractures. Less than a month after the accident Meghan was released to out-patient care and after completing many months of physical therapy, could participate in the 2008 field hockey season. The ECAC recognized Meghan for her strength and determination to get back on the field after such serious injuries.
As of mid-October Bain was ranked 10th in all-time career goals at JMU with 38 and second in game-winning goals (20) in her career. She is a senior sports management major from Berlin, N.J.
