Gary Butler, Ashley Williamson, Nora Maguier White, Kaarlo Kankkunen (L to R).

 

Gary Butler ('73)

            Gary Butler was a top player on JMU men's basketball teams from 1969-72 before missing all but a part of one game of his senior season with a knee injury.  He was a double-figure scorer and rebounder during each of his first three years and had career totals of 870 points and 682 rebounds.

            Butler led the team in rebounding three times and in scoring once, was a two-year captain and was a team most valuable player.  His 12.3 rebounds per game average in 1969-70 and his 11.2 career rebounding mark remain JMU records.

  

Kaarlo Kankkunen ('95)

            Kaarlo Kankkunen was a JMU men's soccer standout from 1992-94, playing on teams that went to three NCAA tournaments after winning Colonial Athletic Association titles, compiled a 56-9-4 record and in 1994 reached the NCAA quarterfinals.

            Kankkunen was CAA player of the year and an All-America in 1994, CAA tournament most valuable player in 1993, a three-time All-CAA selection and a two-time all-region and all-state choice.  He had 19 goals and 32 assists as a Duke and holds the team season assists record of 16 and is second on its career assists list with 32.

  

Nora Maguire White ('92)

            Nora Maguire White was a JMU lacrosse standout from 1989-92 and before the 2008 season remained seventh in team history in goals (138), tied for seventh in assists (61) and sixth in total points (199).

            Maguire White holds the JMU game record of nine assists, and she was an All-America in 1991 and 1992, an honorable mention All-America in 1990, and a four-time all-region and a three-time all-league choice.  She was player of the year in the South Atlantic Conference in 1991 and in the Colonial Athletic Association in 1992, a four-time member of the U.S. Squad, and a member of the 1991 U.S. Under-23 Team.
  

E. Ashley Williamson ('96)

            Ashley Williamson was a JMU women's soccer standout from 1992-95 and remains the team career record holder for goals with 55 and points with 128 and its season record holder for goals with 19 and points with 46.

            As a 1995 senior Williamson received All-Colonial Athletic Association, all-state and all-region recognition and was an academic all-district honoree.  She was a member of JMU's 1995 team that won the CAA championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament round of 16 while posting a 16-8-1 record.
