Department Description: Our mission is to invite the friends of the University and JMU athletics to develop a relationship with our department. In the fulfillment of our mission, we strive to clearly demonstrate: The vision of JMU Athletics and the opportunities to invest in the betterment of our Student-Athletes.

 

Internship Description: The Duke Club is the fundraising arm of JMU Athletics. Individuals selected to work in the Major Gifts area will gain insight into the various aspects and methods of athletic fundraising. Interns work with the Director of Major Gifts to identify new potential donors to JMU Athletics and are involved with donor cultivation and the solicitation of private financial support for specific projects and campaigns. Interns will help plan, execute and staff special events designed for our top donors. Interns will develop and implement various fundraising plans and strategies that will yield real results in terms of dollars raised in support of JMU Athletics. Additionally, interns will gain an understanding of the importance of capital gifts in the planning, growth, and improvement of an athletic department.

Ideal candidates will have very strong interpersonal and social skills as well as an interest in learning about private fundraising. They will be comfortable working as part of a team as well as working with minimal supervision and direction. The work schedule will include evening and weekend commitments that include specific responsibilities on game days.
