  • Women's golf returns to action for the first time this spring, playing in the Jacksonville University Amelia Island Collegiate in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
  • There are 14 teams in the field for this opening tournament, with only Illinois State coming out of the Central time zone. The other 13 squads are all in the Eastern time zone.
  • Four of JMU's five team players in the event ranked 1-4 for the team in fall scoring, led by sophomore Karishma Thiagaraj at 76.40 strokes in 15 rounds played.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU will send eight athletes to Lynchburg for the Liberty Quad meet. The event was originally scheduled for Friday, but was rescheduled for Monday due to inclement weather.
  • Freshman Ebony Owusu-Sampah and senior Katie Harman paced the Dukes with runner-up finishes last weekend at Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup hosted by Penn State University. Owusu-Sampah was second in the long jump, while Harman took second in the mile run.
  • After just missing the ECAC-qualifying standard in the 60-meter hurdles the week before, freshman Deana Forbes qualified at Penn State. She finished third with a time of 8.75 seconds.

 Game Notes:

  • Women's tennis moved to 2-2 on the season with a 5-0 win at George Mason on Saturday evening.
  • Junior Taylor Pinchoff and freshmen Alex Huie and Emily Bradshaw each won in singles action against the Patriots.  In doubles action, sophomore Cara Wirth and redshirt junior Sarah Khan as well as seniors Ruxandra Andriescu and Jacqueline Palmucci prevailed over George Mason.
  • Washington & Lee is a Division III program that opened its season on Feb. 16 with a 9-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU hosts Longwood in its 2014 home opener. The Dukes hold a 14-9 advantage in the all-time series. The teams split the two games they played last season.
  • The Dukes are coming off a 1-2 record on the road against No. 34 East Carolina. Junior right-hander ChrisHuffman struck out seven batters in five innings of work, and senior Trent Cundiff pitched a scoreless ninth for the save in the Dukes' 5-2 win in the second game of the series.
  • Sophomore shortstop Kyle Weston had two multiple-hit games against the Pirates, including a 2-for-4 day with two runs scored in the win.
  • Longwood opened its season with a 6-4 win on the road over East Tennessee State on Sunday. Junior Brandon Delk paced the Lancers with two hits, including a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU hosts Drexel in the second matchup the season between the two teams. The Dragons won the first game 78-60 in Philadelphia.
  • The Dukes have won back-to-back CAA home games, including a 64-62 win over UNCW on Saturday. Sophomore guard Ron Curry scored the go-ahead bucket with 32 seconds remaining in the game.
  • Graduate forward Andrey Semenov had a big game in the win over the Seahawks. He led all scored with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including a 4-of-7 mark from beyond the arc.
  • The Dragons have won three of their last four games in conference play, including a 74-63 victory at home over Hofstra on Sunday.
