MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 12, 2014 – In the most recent USA Today Coaches Poll, the James Madison women’s basketball team (19-4) received seven points from college women’s basketball coaches around the nation.
This marks the second time in the 2013-14 season JMU has received votes in the Coaches Poll, up from five points in the week five poll. The Dukes received three points in the AP Top 25 poll for the last two weeks.
Over a seven-day stretch, JMU scored three wins in Colonial Athletic Association play to up its league record to 9-0. The Dukes won those three games by an average of 31.3 points, including a 42-point win over Towson (82-40) on Sunday afternoon to notch head coach Kenny Brooks’ 150th win at the JMU Convocation Center.
Nationally, the Dukes rank in the top nine in six different statistical categories, including fourth in field-goal percentage defense (0.344), sixth in 3-point field-goal defense (0.251) and seventh in blocked shots per game (6.0). They also rank ninth in rebound margin (+10.5), scoring defense (55.7 ppg) and scoring margin (+19.5).
