 Game Notes:

  • The Dukes are 1-0 in CAA play and 11-4 overall after drumming Delaware 87-51 in their conference opener last Sunday. Senior guard Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) poured in a career-high 33 points on her way to being named CAA Player of the Week.
  • Redshirt senior forward Nikki Newman (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) produced an all-around effort with 11 rebounds, eight points, seven assists, three steals and two blocks in the win over the Blue Hens.
  • The Dukes had a 24-9 assists to turnover ratio in the game, both a season-high in assists and season-low in turnovers. Sophomore guard Angela Mickens (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) tied her season-high with eight assists and did not turn the ball over.
  • JMU leads the all-time series with Towson 33-3 and has victories in the last four meetings between the squads. Last season, the Dukes went 3-0 against the Tigers.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU opens the spring season at the VCU 4-1 Tournament. The Dukes will take on VCU at 11 a.m. and will play Temple at 2 p.m.
  • Sophomore Maxi Branth finished the fall season with a record of 8-3. He was the runner-up at the Elon Fall Shootout and took fifth at the UVA Fall Classic.
  • Sophomore Robert Stirling and freshman Miljan Ruzic closed out the fall season with a doubles title at the Elon Fall Shootout.

 Game Notes:

  • The swimming and diving program improved to 6-3 in dual meets last weekend with a 202-90 win over Georgetown at Savage Natatorium.
  • The Dukes won 15 of the 16 events in the meet with 12 different individuals recording event wins. The only student-athlete to collect multiple wins in the meet was junior Susanne Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) who won both the 100-yard backstroke and the 100 freestyle.
  • On the diving boards, junior Alex Savage (Carrolton, Texas) won the one-meter competition with a NCAA Zone Diving qualifying score of 293.77. Redshirt freshman Taryn McLaughlin (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) placed first on the three-meter board with a career-best score of 316.05.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU opens the spring slate with the No. 40 William & Mary, the reigning CAA champion.
  • Seniors Ruxandra Andriescu and Jacqueline Palmucci are beginning their final season as Dukes.  Both tallied flight titles during the fall campaign, with Andriescu picking up a singles title at the Liberty Fall Classic and Palmucci notching a doubles win at the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational with freshman Rachel Nelson.
  • When the Dukes face the Tribe on Saturday, William & Mary will already have played in three dual matches.  The Tribe has fallen at No. 10 Duke and to No. 13 Virginia already while they face East Carolina at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

 Game Notes:

  • The Dukes rank first in the CAA and ninth in the nation in rebounding marging, having only been outrebounded by an opponent once this season. The Dukes have also won all 11 of their games by double figures.
  • JMU received recognition in two mid-major polls this week, ranking fourth in ESPN.com's Mid-Major Top 10 and seventh in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25.
  • This is the 22nd meeting between the Dukes and the Pride with Madison leading the all-time series 13-8. JMU has won the last four meetings between the two clubs, but is just 5-5 in games played at Hempstead.
  • The Pride is 6-8 on the season with a 1-2 mark in the CAA. They are coming off a 64-55 win at UNCW last Sunday and have won three of their last four at home.
