HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 25, 2013 – James Madison women’s tennis head coach Maria Malerba announced Monday afternoon the signings of Dylan Owens and Kimberly Herrock to National Letters of Intent for 2014-15.

Owens hails from Olney, Md., where she attends Sherwood High School and trains at the Junior Tennis Champions Center.  According to TennisRecruiting.net, she currently ranks second among all members of the class of 2014 in Maryland, 17th in the Mid-Atlantic region and 98th nationally.  The four-star recruit holds a 31-23 record overall, including a 25-6 record against four-star recruits and lower.

“When you’re recruiting, you’re looking not just for how good they are now, but how much will they grow in college,” Malerba acknowledged.  “Dylan is a very smart tennis player on the court and very athletic.  She’s going to be an impact player for our program.”

Herrock is a four-star recruit from Tarpon Springs, Fla. and trains at the Bardmoor Tennis Academy.  A four-star recruit, she is ranked 17th in the state of Florida, 31st in the southeast and 93rd nationally according to TennisRecruiting.net.  She boasts a 21-10 record against other four-star recruits, including seven straight wins since July 2013.

“[Kimmy] is offensively-minded, and she is going to help us in both singles and doubles,” Malerba said.  “I think she is going to thrive here and I think she definitely has her best tennis ahead of her.”

The Dukes open the spring dual season on Saturday, January 18, when they travel to Colonial Athletic Association rival William & Mary.
