PRINCETON, N.J., May 11, 2013 -- James Madison's 4x800 meter relay team won its heat Saturday to advance to Sunday's final in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships hosted by Princeton.
The Dukes' foursome of sophomore Tiel Westbrook (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis), senior Annie Reiner (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes), sophomore Kristen Landry (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) and sophomore Morgan Sheaffer (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry) was timed in 8 minutes, 55.76 seconds. The quartet beat second-place La Salle, which was clocked in 8:56.83.
The JMU team's time was the eighth-fastest in school history. It was the third-fastest qualifying time in Saturday's two preliminary heats behind Princeton's 8:49.56 and Fordham's 8:49.62.
Senior Marissa McDonald (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.75 meters (18'10 1/2"). Hampton's Teiara Denmark won the competition with a jump of 6.07 meters (19'11").
Junior Ciarra Morris (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) was clocked in 57.25 seconds in the 400-meter preliminaries. Her time ranked 20th overall. Only the runners with the top eight times advanced to Sunday's final.
Sophomore Jasmine Waddell (Mount Royal, N.J./Kingsway Regional) finished third in her heat in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.39 seconds. She had the 25th-best time in the prelims. The runners with the top 16 times advanced to the semifinals.
The ECAC meet concludes Sunday.
