Women’s Soccer Team Awards Announced

HARRISONBURG, Va., April 23, 2012 -- The James Madison University women's soccer team awards for the 2012 season have been announced.

Junior forward Lauren Wilson (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown) received the team's most valuable offensive player award for the second year in a row.  Wilson was the Dukes' leader in goals (8) and points (18).

Senior defender Amalya Clayton (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) was the recipient of the team’s most valuable defensive player award.  She helped anchor a JMU defense that recorded five shutouts and limited its opponents to an average of 1.46 goals.

Freshman defender Elissa Halik (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins) won the team’s Rookie of the Year award.  Halik was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team last fall. 

The JMU Coaches’ Award was presented to redshirt junior Theresa Naquin (Herndon, Va./Herndon).

The team captains for 2013 have also been announced.  They are rising seniors Sam Lofton (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Becky Sparks (Laurel Springs, N.J./Paul VI) and rising redshirt senior Haley Miller (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East).
