HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison men's golf team finished eighth at the weather-shortened C&F Bank Intercollegiate, March 24-26. Originally scheduled as a three-day, 54-hole tournament, the event was shortened to just 18 holes after snow halted play on Sunday and cancelled play on Monday at Kingsmill Resort's River Course in Williamsburg, Va.
JMU played a portion of its round on Sunday before the round was halted and eventually suspended due to snow. After Monday's round was cancelled, all the teams took to the course today around noon to complete their only round. Madison finished at 12-over 292, seven shots behind team champion Tennessee at 5-over 285. Florida State and Michigan tied for second at 7-over 287, while Eastern Michigan was fourth at 8-over 288. Host William & Mary and Notre Dame rounded out the top five in a tie for fifth at 9-over 289.
Sophomore Trey Smith was the top JMU finisher in a tie for 14th at 1-over 71, while freshman Connor Walters tied for 22nd at 2-over 72. Ryan Vince was next at 4-over 74, tying for 40th, while Tucker Koch tied for 58th at 5-over 75. Senior Rich Leeper was the final JMU player, tied for 105th at 8-over 78. Notre Dame's Cory Sciupider and Casey Olsen from Eastern Michigan tied for medalist at 3-under 67.
Madison will return to action Mon.-Tue., April 1-2 at the Keith Hills Spring Intercollegiate at Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C.
