HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 31, 2013 - The James Madison track & field team travels to State College, Pa., on Saturday for the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup hosted by Penn State.  Pentathlon competition and field events are set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning while women's races get underway just after noon at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

This is the fifth consecutive year the Dukes have appeared at this meet.  Last year, JMU finished sixth out of 16 teams and had five individuals and one relay hit their qualifying mark to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference indoor championships.

"Our goals remain the same this weekend: compete well and get as many athletes as we can qualified for the ECAC championships,"  head coach Ta' Frias said.  "Penn State is a fun meet at a very nice facility.  We can expect to see great competition and our athletes taking advantage of the competitive atmosphere."

So far this season, JMU has qualified four relay teams and one individual for indoor postseason competition.  Coach Frias is confident that number will continue to rise.

"I feel good about the depth we have in the relays and throwing events.  Relays are fun events that allow the athletes to showcase their strengths in a team-oriented atmosphere, and the throwers have achieved personal best marks these past two weekends, which I'm hoping continues at Penn State," she remarked.  "As a team overall, I feel we are moving in a positive direction with room for improvement in each event."
