HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 29, 2012 – After a couple of weeks off from competition, the James Madison swimming and diving team returns to the pool on Saturday for a double-dual meet against Radford and Mount St. Mary’s beginning at 1 p.m. at Savage Natatorium. The meet is JMU’s only home event of the season and is the team’s final action prior to the winter break.

The meet will be the team’s Senior Day meet and provide an opportunity for the team and the University to honor the contributions and effort that this year’s four seniors have provided throughout their careers.

Free video webstream coverage of the meet will be produced on MadiZONE from 12:45-3 p.m.  The coverage is delivered in high definition and includes multiple camera angles, graphics, replay and commentary.  In addition to the swimming and diving action, MadiZONE will include the senior ceremony and interviews with several of the athletes and the coaching staff.  To access, simply refresh JMUSports.com at 12:45 p.m. and connect by clicking on the "push play" graphic.  An archive of the production will be published by noon on Sunday, Dec. 2, for future "On Demand" viewing.

“This weekend’s meet will serve two great causes,” head coach Samantha Smith said. “First, we will acknowledge our seniors for the great work they have done for the JMU Athletics family. We are excited to be hosting Radford and Mount St. Mary’s this weekend and hope to have a great meet for our seniors. All of our graduating athletes have been great leaders and instrumental in building this program over the last four years. This will be a wonderful opportunity to honor the work they have done as JMU athletes. We are very proud of them!”

This year’s senior class includes diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) and swimmers Caroline Burns (Severna Park, Md./Severn School), Andrea Criscuolo (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) and Anna Susko (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury). Helfrich is the only athlete in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships, doing so during her sophomore year. She also holds the school record on the three-meter board.

Criscuolo is the school record holder in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard butterfly. She is also a member of the relay team that holds the record in the 400-yard medley relay and has the second-fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly. Burns is a member of the school-record holding 200 and 400 medley relay teams and has the second-fastest time in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Susko owns the fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke and is a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that owns the school record.

This weekend’s action is also the team’s “Swim for Santa” community service event. The team is collecting non-perishable food items at the door that will be donated to the local food bank for the holidays.

“We will also be using this event as a chance to give back to our local community,” Smith said. “We are excited to call this meet our “Swim for Santa” meet and are asking all families and fans to bring along a non-perishable food item. A box will be located at the door to the stands to collect all donations. After the meet, we will offer the donations to the local food bank (Blue Ridge Area Food Bank) for the holidays. We appreciate how fortunate we are to be a part of such a great family at JMU and are happy to use our meet as an opportunity to give back to other families this holiday season.”
