PHILADELPHIA, Pa., Nov. 5, 2012 – After helping the James Madison field hockey team reach the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship for the second straight season, redshirt junior forward Rachel Wein (Perryville, Md./Perryville) and redshirt freshman forward Taylor West (Princess Anne, Md./Pocomoke) were named to the All-Championship team on Sunday.
Third-seeded JMU won its quarterfinal game against Hofstra to advance to the semifinals where it fell to second-seeded and 10th-ranked Northeastern on a goal in the closing minutes.
Wein led the CAA tournament with three goals and six points, scoring once against Hofstra and both goals in the game against Northeastern. She finished the season with a team-best nine goals and 21 points, and she heads into her senior season with 13 career goals and 31 points. She is tied with West as the team’s active goal-scoring leader.
West started both games of the CAA Championship for JMU. She did not finish with any points, but created several scoring opportunities for the Madison attack. On junior midfielder Amy Goldstein’s (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) overtime goal against Hofstra, West found an opening along the baseline and created a scramble in front of the net that allowed Goldstein to pick up the loose ball and score the game-winning goal.
Drexel’s Amanda Fleischut was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player as she led Drexel to their first ever CAA Championship. She was joined on the All-Championship team by Drexel’s Lindsay McArdle, Laura Hibshman and Jantien Gunter, Northeastern’s Deirdre Duke, Crystal Poland and Christine Tase and Delaware’s Carley Hecht and Michaela Patzner.
