RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 30, 2012 – James Madison senior diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) and sophomore swimmer Sin Hye Won (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) swept the Colonial Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Weekly Honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Helfrich won CAA Diver of the Week accolades for the second time this season after leading JMU to a sweep in the diving events in a double-dual meet against West Virginia and Villanova over the weekend. Helfrich scored a 305.35 in the one-meter dive before totaling a 320.10 on the three-meter board to finish first in both events. She was the only diver to break 300 in either of the diving events and has placed first in all four diving events she’s competed in this season.
This is the seventh time in her career that Helfrich has been the conference’s diver of the week.
Won recorded three top-five finishes in the meet against the Mountaineers and Wildcats to earn CAA Swimmer of the Week honors. Her top performance came in the 100-yard breaststroke in which she took home first place with a time of 1:04.61. She also picked up a second-place showing in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.76) and a fifth-place performance in the 200 individual medley (2:10.12). Won also swam the second leg for JMU’s 400-yard medley relay team that finished second with a time of 3:50.40.
The Dukes return to the pool this weekend as they get their only taste of CAA action prior to the championship meet with the CAA Pod Meet. They travel to Newark, Del., to take on Delaware, UNCW and William & Mary on Saturday and Sunday.
