CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The James Madison men's tennis team had a solid opening day at the ITA Atlantic Regionals, advancing four players to the round-of-64.
Senior Hugo Ramadier (Paris, France/Lycee Francais Chateabriand (Northern Arizona)) started the day off right for the Dukes as he overpowered Temple's Kristian Marquart 7-6, 6-4 in their round-of-128 match.
Freshman Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columbans College) battled for a three-set win over UMBC's Juan Manuel Aranzazu to add to Madison's Friday win total. Stirling struck first with a 7-6 victory before falling 3-6 in set two. He took control in set three to win 7-5 and advance to the second round.
Rounding out the day for the Dukes was senior Greg Vladimirsky (Staten Island, N.Y./Broward Virtual) as he claimed a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory over St. Joe's Jose Sierra. Senior Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (Chattanooga)) advanced to the round- of-64 after taking a bye in round one.
The Dukes will return to action in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday for the second day of the ITA Atlantic Regionals.
