● CAA Commissioners Academic Award
● JMU Athletic Director Scholar Athlete

Sam Russell is a freshman defender from Ashburn, Va. Sam, who wears uniform number 27, plays ice hockey as well as soccer.

My dream job is anything in the medical field.

I chose to come to JMU because it's a beautiful school, everyone is nice, and it's close to home!

My favorite non-soccer memory is going on an AP Biology field trip to Wallops Island.

My favorite soccer memory is winning regionals in 2009 and going to nationals.

Something about me that would surprise people is I play ice hockey.

The accomplishment of which I am proudest is recovering from tearing my ACL and (returning to) play at the same level (as before).

My favorite thing about playing soccer is the feeling of accomplishment when you win a big game.

A quote that inspires/motivates me is "Look beautiful, play ugly."- Coach Burke (my hockey coach).

A person who is an inspiration to me is my mom because she works so hard every single day.

The most played artist on my iPod is: I don't have an iPod, but I listen to a mix of everything!

A way that I relax is lying down and listening to music.

One of the top items on my bucket list is to buy myself a white Range Rover.
