HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 27, 2012 – Looking to get off to a 2-0 start in Colonial Athletic Association play for the second consecutive season, the James Madison volleyball team hosts George Mason at Sinclair Gymnasium/Godwin Hall at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.

JMU started conference play with a 3-0 win over Georgia State last weekend and has won seven of its last nine games overall. The Dukes most recently dropped a 3-0 decision at Liberty on Tuesday.

In the game against the Flames, senior outside hitter Danielle Erb (Tampa, Fla./Plant) moved into seventh on the school’s all-time list with kills as she finished with 17. She now has 1,138 kills and needs just 19 more to catch Karla Gessler (1997-00) for sixth and 60 more to catch Debbi Prince (1992-95) for fifth. Erb also moved into a tie for ninth on the school’s all-time list for service aces with 115. She is three shy of Krysta Cannon (2002-05) for eighth.

Erb is also one dig shy of tying Lindsay Callahan (2007-10) for 10th on the all-time digs list and needs 23 more to reach 1,000 for her career. She’ll be just the fourth player in school history to record 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills. Junior libero Katie Daorai (Tampa, Fla./Plant) is 52 digs shy of reaching 1,000 for her career. She currently ranks second in school history in digs per set with 3.81.

Another benchmark from Tuesday’s match in Lynchburg was senior setter Megan Wiechmann (Sunland, Calif./Village Christian) moving past Kari Kopnicky (1995-97) for fifth on the school’s all-time assists list. Wiechmann handed out 38 helpers to finish the day with 2,524.

JMU is 3-2 at home this season and has won its last two. Since head coach Lauren Steinbrecher took over in 2010, Madison is 26-8 in Sinclair Gymnasium, including a 12-4 mark against CAA foes.

SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
The Patriots come into the weekend with a 3-11 record and have won just once in their last eight matches. They are 1-0 in CAA play, however, after defeating Georgia State 3-0 at home a week ago. GMU is 0-3 in true road games and 0-8 away from Fairfax, Va., including an 0-5 mark in neutral site matches.

Outside hitter Lana Zonjic is the team’s top offensive player, averaging 3.12 kills per set. She is hitting .169 with 156 kills, adding 120 digs, 16 aces, 14 blocks and six assists. Middle blocker Danielle Cook is averaging 1.86 kills per set on .278 hitting while leading the team in blocks with 53. Middle blocker Lolade Owokoniran is second with 49 blocks and fourth in kills with 86.

Junior Tori Price handles the setting duties and is averaging 8.41 assists per set and 2.24 digs per set. Freshman Bernetta Moore handles the libero duties and is tops on the team in digs, averaging 4.66 per set.

Pat Kendrick is in her 28th season as the head coach of the Patriots. She owns a 452-388 career record.

SERIES HISTORY
JMU and George Mason have played each other 76 times dating all the way back to 1977. The Dukes lead the all-time series 43-33, including victories in three straight. Last season, JMU swept the season series with the Patriots winning 3-0 at home and taking a 3-2 decision on the road. Madison is 3-1 under Steinbrecher against GMU.
