HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison men's tennis completed its first day of play at the 2012 ECU Shootout with four singles victories and two doubles wins.
Senior Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (UT-Chattanooga)) teamed up with freshman Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia) to defeat ECU's John Schmitt and Patriek Wolterbeek 8-3. The win was Stirling's first of his collegiate career. His second came in Group B singles play against Richmond's Jesse Feder 6-4, 6-2. Pool also notched a singles victory in Group A against Paul Nahon (Richmond) 6-2, 6-4.
The senior duo of Hugo Ramadier (Rome, Italy/Lycee Francais Chateabriand (Northern Arizona)) and Florent Sentenac (Borderes, France/Lycee Theophile Gautier (Auburn Montgomery)) took the Dukes second doubles win of the day. They defeated Richmond's William Welte and Paul Nahon 8-5.
Ramadier took the second singles win in Group B with a victory over ECU's Damien Brenard 6-1, 7-6(1). In Group C singles, Sentenac cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Richmond's Aaron Wicker.
The round-robin tournament continues on Saturday for day two of the ECU Shootout in Greenville, N.C.
