HARRISONBURG, Va., August 1, 2012 - Rising seniors Katie Harman and Annie Reiner have been named to the 2012 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Track and Field Team for their performances during the 2012 outdoor track and field season.
The USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team is a national team comprised of 676 student-athletes from over 171 institutions. To be named to the honorary team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and participated in a round of the NCAA Division I Championships.
James Madison was one of only three Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) schools to have student-athletes selected for the honor. George Mason University had four student-athletes chosen while UNCW had one.
Harman and Reiner were two of the three JMU student-athletes who participated in the NCAA East Region Preliminary Track and Field Championships in May 2012. Reiner placed 26th in the 800-meter race, and Harman came in 47th place in the 1500-meter run.
Both are five-time recipients of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award as well as two-time honorees of the JMU Athletic Director Scholar-Athlete award. Harman was also recently named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team and selected as the 2012 CAA Scholar-Athlete for women's track & field.
The pair will next race when the JMU Cross Country squad competes in the VMI Invitational on Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Lexington, Va.
