Contract of Softball Coach Katie Flynn Not Renewed

HARRISONBURG, Va.  – The contract of Katie Flynn, head softball coach at James Madison University, will not be renewed, JMU Director of Athletics Jeff Bourne, announced Wednesday. Flynn has served at the helm of the Dukes for all 11 seasons of the program’s history, beginning her tenure as head coach in November 2000 with the first season of play in 2002. 

“We appreciate Katie’s commitment to the University and our softball program,” Bourne said. “Katie is truly an outstanding person, and we thank her for all she gave to our student-athletes and JMU. We wish her the best in her future endeavors. We will begin a national search for our next head coach immediately.” 

Flynn was 313-278 in her career at Madison and 473-452 in her 18-year career. She led the squad to eight CAA Tournament appearances, including two appearances in the championship game and the program’s first ever CAA Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2009. Flynn helped lead the squad to an average of 28 wins per season in her 11 years, including a school-record 38 victories in 2007 and tying for the CAA regular-season crown that year with a 17-3 mark. This past season, JMU was 30-26 overall and 15-5 in CAA play, ending its season in the CAA Tournament semifinals.



James Madison University – Head Softball Coach Katie Flynn will not be renewed for the 2012-13 season.
