James Madison will host its Colonial Athletic Association home opener this weekend against the Tribe of William and Mary starting Friday at 7 p.m. at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park. The Dukes and Tribe also play Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
JMU holds a record of 5-11-1 and 0-3 in CAA play this season after Wednesday's loss to Liberty on the road. The Dukes were shut out in the 9-0 loss and were limited to only one hit in the non-conference matchup, which is the Dukes' sixth straight loss. Only five batters reached base for JMU as sophomore third baseman Conner Brown recorded the Dukes' only hit with a single in the fifth inning. The four Liberty pitchers combined to limit JMU to its fewest hits since being no-hit by Northeastern ace Adam Ottavino on April 7, 2006. The Dukes were also shutout for the first time since posting two hits in a 6-0 home loss to UNCW on April 17, 2010.
William and Mary held a two-game midweek series against Quinnipiac this week and won both contests by scores of 13-5 and 9-5. Over the two games, the Tribe accumulated 25 hits with sophomore third baseman Ryan Lindemuth recording two RBIs and his third homerun of the season in the second game. William and Mary is 12-7 this year and 1-2 in the conference.
The Tribe is led offensively this season by Lindemuth, who is hitting .386 with 19 RBIs on 27 hits. He also has 10 stolen bases on twelve attempts this year. Senior outfielder Tadd Bower has had a hot bat the past two games helping him to improve his batting average to .354 with 10 RBIs and six doubles on 17 hits. Junior outfielder Ryan Brown is also hitting .323 and has a team-leading 25 runs scored. On the mound, senior right-handed pitcher Matt Davenport has a 1.30 ERA with a 3-0 record in four starts. He has struck out 24 batters in the 34.2 innings he has pitched and also thrown two nine-inning complete games this season. Another senior righty Jay McCarthy is 2-1 this year on two starts with a 1.80 ERA.
JMU leads the all-time series 72-31 over the Tribe. The last meeting between the two teams was a three-game sweep by the Dukes last year in Williamsburg to open conference play. JMU won by scores of 5-4, 6-4 and 5-3.

One of the CAA's top starting pitchers, Davenport has been hot this season and has 24 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings of action. His last start was a nine-inning complete game where he surrendered only two earned runs and had five strikeouts against Northeastern.
JMU - Evan Scott, Sr., RHP (0-2, 11.25 ERA)
Scott has struggled in his three starts this season and has only pitched a total of eight innings while giving up ten earned runs. He does have seven strikeouts but his opponents are hitting .355 off him this season.
William and Mary - Cole Shain, Sr., LHP (1-2, 5.19 ERA)
Shain's last outing was a four-inning performance against Northeastern in which he saw nine hits and five earned runs given up, resulting in a loss.

He has made four starts for the Tribe this season and has collected 17 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched. Wainman pitched a seven inning shutout versus New York Tech earlier this season.
