HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 4, 2012- James Madison's "Diamond" Dukes will hold their third annual Batter Up Barbeque and Silent Auction on Sunday Jan. 22 at 4 p.m. in Memorial Hall Gym. Baseball fans in the Shenandoah Valley are invited to join the Dukes at this event.
Appealing to baseball fans of all ages, the evening will include barbeque style food, a silent auction, tours of JMU baseball's indoor space in Memorial Hall and guest speaker Ron Polk, who is a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame. Polk is currently in his fourth season as a volunteer assistant coach for the UAB Blazers.
Ron Polk has the most wins as a coach in any sport in the history of the Southeastern Conference with a head coaching career record of 1,373-700-2 (.622). He retired from Mississippi State in 2008 after 29 seasons there. Before that he coached at Georgia Southern (1972-75) and Georgia (2000-01). Between the three schools he led his teams to a total of eight College World Series appearances, five SEC championships and 23 Regional appearances.
