VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., June 21, 2011 – Rising juniors Sam Smiertka (Townsend, Del./St. Thomas More) and Jenna Taylor (Midlothian, Va./James River) and incoming freshman Dana Allaband (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) are representing the James Madison field hockey team at the Junior National Championships being held in Virginia Beach, Va., this week.
Smiertka and Allaband are playing on the Mid Atlantic team while Taylor is on the South team.
Allaband has highlighted the action through two days for the Dukes, scoring a pair of goals on day one to lead her team to a 5-1 win over Pennsylvania.
The Mid Atlantic team is 1-1 with games remaining against the South (June 21, 8 p.m.), New Jersey (June 22, 6:15 p.m.) and New England (June 24, 4:30 p.m.). The South dropped its first two games, but will still face the Mid Atlantic (June 21, 8 p.m.), New England (June 22, 4:30 p.m.) and Pennsylvania (June 24, 4:30 p.m.). The championship round will be held on Saturday, June 25.
The eight-day event is being held June 18-25 at the Virginia Beach National Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va. Admission is free and open to the public. Photos and recaps of the action is available on the USA Field Hockey website.
