READING, Pa., June 23, 2010 -- Former JMU men's soccer teammates Nick Zimmerman and CJ Sapong (Manassas, Va./Forest Park) were on opposite sides in an exhibition game Wednesday night at Don Thomas Stadium.
Zimmerman (JMU '08) was playing for the Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union, which traveled to Reading for an exhibition match against Reading United A.C. Sapong, a rising senior at JMU, is on the Reading United roster.
Zimmerman, a former two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association midfielder for the Dukes, scored his team's second goal in the 59th minute en route to a 2-0 Union victory.
Sapong played up front for Reading, a minor-league team and a Player Development Partner of the Philadelphia Union.
Sapong, a three-time All-CAA first-team selection, was CAA Rookie of the Year in 2007, when he and Zimmerman played together for the Dukes. That year Sapong was JMU's top scorer (10 goals, 21 points), while Zimmerman led the team in assists (8) and ranked second in points (14).
