HARRISONBURG, Va. – The James Madison football program will open the 2013 season ranked in the top 25 of the two major national polls, announced recently. The Dukes are ranked 15th the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Coaches’ Poll and 19th in the The Sports Network Poll.
In the Coaches’ Poll, there are six Colonial Athletic Association teams ranked in the top 15, with New Hampshire the top squad in eighth. In fact, JMU will face all six teams in this top 25, as Madison will host Villanova (No. 9), Stony Brook (No. 13) and Richmond (No. 14) while traveling to UNH and Towson (No. 12). Also, Delaware and CAA-newcomer Albany is among those receiving votes, giving the Dukes all four home league games and seven conference tilts against teams honored in the poll.
With the media members making the predictions in The Sports Network poll, there are also six teams in the top 25, with Villanova the top league team at No. 5. New Hampshire is No. 10, with Towson (No. 11), Richmond (No. 15) and Stony Brook (No. 16) ahead of the Dukes. Delaware, Albany and Wililam & Mary are all receiving votes in The Sports Network Poll, making all eight CAA opponents for the Dukes recognized in the preseason rankings.
JMU will open the 2013 season at home, hosting Central Connecticut State at Bridgeforth Stadium on Saturday, August 31. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
