RICHMOND, Va, April 2, 2013 – Senior Adrena May (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) earned Field Athlete of the Week honors for the Colonial Athletic Association following her hammer throw performance at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend. It is the first weekly league honor of her career and the first for James Madison track & field this season.
On March 30, May launched the hammer 49.17 meters (161’4”) to finish 14th out of 62 athletes in the event held in Raleigh, N.C. Her toss was a personal best, beating her previous record of 48.68 meters (159’8”) which she set at the Virginia Cup on March 23 in Charlottesville, Va. For the second straight week, she also posted the second-best heave in JMU history.
The Dukes return to action April 5-6 for a second weekend of split competition. JMU will send several athletes to the Liberty Collegiate Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., while others travel to the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va.
